WELL REHABILITATION-TREATMENT INFORMATION

Well rehabilitation is the process of restoring a well's efficiency and extending its lifespan by addressing issues like mineral buildup, clogging, and reduced water flow. This involves various techniques, including mechanical and chemical treatments, to clear debris, re-establish water flow, and improve well performance.

Rehabilitation-Treatment can sometimes avoid costly filtration, but that is not always the case. All wells are different in their ages, depth, flow, etc.

When successful many good things can take place like restoring the well's ability to provide a sufficient water supply, preventing further deterioration, extending the well's lifespan, preventing the need to drill a new well, removing harmful contaminants, improving the taste and odor of the water and lowering the energy required to pump water.

Methods for Water Well Rehabilitation:

  • Mechanical Cleaning: Brushing and bailing to remove debris and mineral deposits.

  • Chemical Treatment: Using NSF acids or other chemicals to dissolve and oxidize mineral encrustations and biological materials.

  • Hydrofracturing: Using high-pressure water to open up cracks and crevices where water flows into the well.

  • Jetting and Air Lifting: Using high-velocity water and or air to remove debris and re-develop the well.

  • Disinfection Well Shock: Cleaning the well with NSF chlorine (not bleach) or other disinfectants to prevent contamination and also clean the well.

When to Consider Rehabilitation:

  • Decreased Well Yield: A significant drop in the well's ability to produce water.

  • Increased Drawdown: The depth of the water level in the well decreases more rapidly during pumping.

  • Poor Water Quality: Changes in taste, odor, color of the water, bacteria or other contaminants found in the water

  • Clogged Perforations or Screens: Reduced water flow due to debris or mineral buildup.
